Hair Restoration
(Hair Flaps & Transplants)

Description
The science of hair transplantation has just taken a quantum leap forward with Hair Flaps and Tissue Expanders. Rather than the slow process of growing ten to fifteen hairs each from plug grafts, Hair Flaps transfer more than three thousand long hair shafts in one morning. Tissue expanders redistribute all of your hair evenly over the entire scalp.

Procedure
A flap is taken from the side and back of the scalp and transferred to the front. The donor site is closed, leaving no noticeable deficiency or visible scar. Six weeks later, a similar flap is taken from the opposite side. In some cases, a bald area behind the new flaps remains. This is eliminated with a staged scalp reduction. The final touch-up is done with old-fashioned plugs.

Tissue expanders can stretch the hair-bearing scalp enough that all the bald area can be excised and the hair-bearing scalp brought in to cover the defect with long hair that can be combed the next day.

Considerations
Infection or slough due to inadequate blood supply could be disastrous to the new crop of hair. This is a very remote possibility and rarely, if ever, happens. It is even less likely with scalp expanders than it is with scalp flaps.
