Chin Surgery
(Mentoplasty) (no visible incision)

Description
Chin surgery or Mentoplasty is performed when the chin is located too far back (retrusion or underdevelopment) or when the chin is located too far forward (protrusion or over development). Protrusion is often associated with dental malocclusion and retrusion is often associated with some types of nasal deformities.

Procedures
Correction of moderate chin displacements (underdevelopment) is performed by use of silicone implants, shaped to the required contour and positioned through a small incision inside the lower lip or under the chin.

Correction of chin protrusion (over development) may involve reduction of bone prominence alone or it may require repositioning of the entire lower jaw when realignment is necessary.

Considerations
Correction of underdeveloped chin may need to be performed along with a nasal correction.

Corrective dental surgery may be necessary when planning treatment for severe protrusion.
